Jake Berg ‘04 ALANA Internship Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Jake Berg ’04 to provide perpetual support for undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need – who are involved in our ALANA (African, Latino, Asian, Native America) student organization and / or with other similar / related entities on campus – and are participating in a credit-bearing internship. Preference will be giving to members of BSU. SUNY Oswego brought Jake into a host of immersive experiences as well as provided him with the foundation to thrive professionally. He would like to pay that sentiment forward with this fund.

Awarded to 2 students per year. The student will apply and be selected through EXCEL.

Eligibility:
A. Full-time student status. Preference will be given to a student in the School of Business.
B. Confirmed credit-bearing internship.
C. Be an active member of an ALANA (African, Latino, Asian, Native America) student organization and / or with another similar / related entity on campus. To be considered an active member, student must have gone to at least (3) programs/meetings and (2) events for the year. (Verification of student’s active membership status will be done through The Point.)
D. Have documented financial need.
E. Submit an essay detailing confirmed credit bearing internship, how this fund will be of assistance in participating in the internship, and future professional plans.
F. Entering junior or senior year.
G. Have a minimum 2.50 GPA.
H. Register for a minimum of 3 credits for an internship.
I. Agree to provide a brief (1 page) email report on your internship experience, to both EXCEL and the Donor within 30 days of the internship completion. The report should include the benefits and challenges of the internship along with positive and negative feedback that could prove useful for future internship awards.

Prior to receiving funding all Phases outlined on oswego.edu/internships must be completed including:
1. Having an EXCEL Approved Internship Verification Form
2. The Learning Agreement must be completely approved through Handshake.
3. Successfully complete your internship.
4. Provide a brief (1 page) email report on your internship experience to EXCEL within 30 days of the internship completion. The report should include the benefits and challenges of the internship along with positive and negative feedback that could prove useful for future internship awards.
