Marilynn J. Smiley Music History Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Marilynn J. Smiley, PhD, emeritus professor of music at SUNY Oswego for a music major. Dr. Smiley retired in 2014 after 53 years of teaching at SUNY Oswego. Forty of those years she held the title of distinguished teaching professor at SUNY Oswego. Marilynn’s retirement marked the culmination of 60 years of musical education. To qualify for this award, a student must:
a.) Be a declared music major
b.) Maintain a 3.25 SUNY Oswego GPA
c.) Apply in sophomore or junior year, for an award to be received in the subsequent academic year
d.) Must have completed one upper-division Music History course (Ex: MUS 307, MUS310, MUS311, MUS318, or MUS329) or an approved upper division music history or music literature course
e.) Demonstrate advanced writing skills and the ability to do research regarding the history of music or current trends in music
f.) Be an active member/performer within the music department.
