Casey/Dorsey Family Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Dennis and Kerry Casey Dorsey ’81 in honor of their parents R. Edward (d. 1982) and Dorothy (d. 1974) Dorsey and C. Robert Casey (d. 1990) and Joan Gavin Casey (d. 2021) to assist first generation students with financial need from Oswego or Nassau County.

Believing in the power of higher education, the Dorsey’s and Casey’s endeavored to provide a college education for their respective children so that future family generations could forge productive lives. Kerry, a first generation SUNY Oswego college student, former Chair of the SUNY Oswego College Council and former SUNY Oswego Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations, experienced the transformational power of scholarship support as a student, alumna, volunteer and employee. The Dorsey’s seek to help others fulfill their dreams of a college education and help working families.

To qualify for this award, a student must:
a. Be a first generation matriculated student with documented financial need.
b. Be from Oswego or Nassau County.
c. Submit an essay documenting how this scholarship will assist them in achieving their dream of a college education.
d. The student will apply in their freshman, sophomore or junior year for an award to be received the following academic year.
e. This scholarship is renewable for up to a total of 3 years if a student is in good academic standing and continues to meet all other criteria. The scholarship can be renewed an additional year if the recipient continues as a graduate student at SUNY Oswego.
