Jean Hernon McDade '60 Memorial Scholarship

The family of Jean Hernon McDade and George Campbell McDade ’60 established this scholarship in their memory. Both were compassionate and committed educators. Jean focused on the needs of adult learners in the New York State External Diploma Program in Rochester, NY, advocating for those who have been denied opportunity and for those who lacked the resources, the experience, or the ability to fully reach their potential as human beings. George was a faculty member at Monroe Community College for both the English and Art departments. This scholarship commemorates Jean and George’s life-long passionate commitment to higher education, particularly to adult learners, and to creating opportunities for young people to flourish and improve their lives. To qualify for this award, a student must:
a. Be a junior or senior level non-traditional full-time matriculated major in good standing in English, History, Sociology, Art or Theatre or the School of Education.
b. Apply in sophomore or junior year (having completed 26-86 credits, including transfer)
c. Have documented financial need
d. If there is not a non-traditional student that qualifies, any senior level student that meets all other qualifications may be selected.
