Dr. Jay Button Scholarship
Dr. Jay M. Button, together with his dear family, friends and alumni of the First Year Residential Experience program, established this scholarship to acknowledge and honor his legacy. Jay is remembered as a distinguished member of the SUNY Oswego family – a faculty member in the School of Education for nearly 30 years and then the Faculty Master in the Johnson Hall First Year Residential Experience program for nearly 20 years. This scholarship supports students who have lived in the Johnson Hall First Year Residential Experience, and whose journeys may have had uphill struggles and wrong turns.
To qualify for this award, a student must:
a. Be a current or former resident of Johnson Hall, having lived in the building for at least one full semester.
b. Apply during freshman, sophomore or junior year (having completed 12-86 credits, including transfer)
c. Write an essay describing struggles experienced through college and how living in Johnson Hall positively impacted the experience and/or success at SUNY Oswego.
d. Submit two letters of reference from individuals who can support applicant’s struggle and subsequent positive movement.
