Michael '65 and Linda Jarman Demas Scholarship
This scholarship was established to support future educators. Michael Demas ’65 was an elementary hands-on math and science teacher for 33 years in the Sayville Public Schools. To qualify for the scholarship, a student must:
a. Be a declared major within the School of Education (with a teaching certificate major).
b. Have demonstrated financial need.
c. Apply in their freshman or sophomore year, for an award to be received in the subsequent academic year.
d. Demonstrate involvement on campus in intramural, club or intercollegiate athletics.
e. Write a 200-250 word essay describing their involvement in athletics and desire to be a teacher.
Note: The scholarship is renewable if the student maintains a minimum GPA of 2.5.
